Another Kind of Alarm Clock

A put Brady in his crib and told him to take a nap. I fell asleep in my own bed for about 30 minutes before I heard, "Cock a doodle doo! Cock a doodle doo!" really loudly over the monitor.
I guess he gets points for being creative.

Linus Syndrome

I looked for opportunities all day yesterday, and one never came. I finally was able to sneak Brady's blankey away from him this morning while he ate breakfast. I shoved it in the washing machine for the two seconds that his attention was turned elsewhere.
An hour later I heard Brady making some very distraught noises. When I asked him what was wrong he said he couldn't find his blankey. I told him it was getting clean and was in the dryer. He spent the next 15 minutes, face down, on the kitchen floor moaning, "Oh my blankey, I need my blankey!"

If We Took a Holiday

Our little family spent the last couple of days at Holiday World in southern Indiana. We all came home with souvenirs to remember our trip by... also known as sunburns. Apparently free sunscreen doesn't do anything when it is 98 degrees with high humidity.
Bethanie hit every roller coaster in the park, including the world's tallest water ride, the pilgrim's plunge, the world's longest water coaster, the wildebeest, and the world's best wooden coaster, the voyage!
Sadie enjoyed the "kiddie coaster" and loved the slides and the wave pool in the water park.
Brady loved it all! He loved watching the "trains, aka. roller coasters, and playing in the water. He also loved flying the airplanes.

The most memorable moment for me was when I was waiting in line with Brady for our free drinks. He kept trying to stick his finger in the butt crack of the guy standing in front of us. I guess that is a risk you take when you have a crack problem! I am happy to say that I was able to thwart all three attempts.

When I Grow Up

Astronaut, doctor, rock star, teacher... All typical responses from a 5 year old about what they want to be when they grow up. What does Sadie want to be?

"A patent lawyer!"

Loan Shark

Today I was going to purchase an item from a cash only establishment. I don't happen to have any cash on hand and didn't want to take the time to go get some. I asked Sadie if I could borrow $5.50 until tomorrow.
She immediately began negotiating. I have to pay back $6 instead of $5.50. I must pay her back tomorrow or else I owe her more.
Maybe some of that mofia blood from Great-great grandpa came through? Sheesh. I better sleep with one eye open tonight.

Why Ask Why?

Most children go through a "why" stage. The constant reiteration becomes tiresome very quickly. Bethanie and Sadie both went through this stage at about the age of 2. Brady has decided to be different. He doesn't ask "why", he asks, "Why not?!".
I can tell this is a hint of the things to come.

The Chase is On

It's that time again, time for Brady's quarterly haircut. Brady inherited Sean's curly, thick hair, so it does not get longer, it gets bigger. I am not saying it isn't absolutely adorable, he was just due for a hedge trimming.
Brady is always game for a haircut for the first three minutes. No big deal. The clippers tickle a little, and there is a lot of wiggling, but at least he is planted in one spot. As soon as the scissors come out for the top of his head he disappears like a teenager at chore time.
After an hour of well timed random snips and a bribe with laffy taffy, he is finally done. My favorite part of the whole scene was when he was crouched under the table looking up at me with a mischievous gleam in his eye, while I hovered above with the scissors in hand.

He'll Have a Translator

Me to the kids: "We are waiting to see if dad has to go to London for a week."
Bethanie: "Wow! That isn't even in the United States! How will he know what they are saying?"

Phase 2

Slowly, but surely we are phasing out- The House In Our Backyard-. Mwahahahahaha

No, really. That house actually looks like it is in our backyard.

Sean and I are thinking that at the current pace, the fence should be done by... sometime next year. :)

So... THAT Time You Were Listening?

Sadie: "Mom, you are our example. I heard you say, "shut up". That means that I can say shut up and you can't stop me. Heh heh heh."

It's Not Science

On Wednesday the kids and I talked about how sweets and junk food effect our health and energy. After that we looked up some recipes for snacks and took a field trip to the grocery store. For lunch we ended up having whole wheat crepes with ham and cheese and a side of sliced watermelon. For an afternoon snack we made breakfast cookies. They were a hit.
Check out the recipe on the recipe blog I share with a couple of my bffs. ;)

No More... Wide Open Spaces

We had a very busy holiday weekend! Sean and I started putting in our fence. It was good, hard work. We are all exhausted and a little bit (ok, a whole lot) grumpy.
The weekend project was interspersed with fireworks, a lot of food, and a whole lot of s'mores.
I thought I would share a picture of the craft the kids did yesterday. One of my young women from church came over and helped the kids make tie-dyed shirts while Sean and I worked on the fence.

Some friends of ours joined us yesterday evening to BBQ and assist with the hole digging. We are now the proud owners of 50 very well cemented posts.

I Can Count to 6!

Yesterday the kids were dying to get out and play with friends. We grabbed a few of their friends and headed over to the sprinkler park/ playground. I had a total of 6 kids with me. It was a really cool park, but there were plenty of places to lose 6 kids, who were all insisting on going their separate ways.
For an hour and a half I looked like a crazy person. Anyone looking at me saw a woman who looked like she was watching a tennis game and frantically mouthing, "One, two, three... four, five.... six...one, two... three... where's three?... four, five... wait, where did five go? ...six".
For 5 minutes I managed to get them all in the same place.
